What is Sublimation Printing?

Sublimation Printing is a special method of applying an image to polyester cloth, rock, metal & any specially coated ceramic materials. The production technique is relatively simple, it’s the chemical process which separates it from any other form of digital printing. When Sublimation Inks are heated, they turn into gas & dyes polyester fabric or coated items. The result is a premium full-colour, photographic-quality image that will not crack, peel or wash away from the substrate. Sublimation dyes are not opaque & therefore the printable items need to be white or pastel colour.

There are 5 main materials & methods you need to know in Sublimation Printing, which are :

  1. Sublimation Inks

Sublimation Ink is unique in its ability to convert from a solid gas without going through a liquid form. Liberty Printing Sdn. Bhd. supplying high quality of Sublimation Inks including cartridges & ink refills for bulk ink systems supported with the relevant ICC colour profiles for vivid colours. You may choose either Sublimation Inks or Sublimation Inks Korea .

  2. Sublimation Papers

Sublimation Paper does not have a coating on them & has a special finish on the surface. After you print the Sublimation Paper, placed it on the product to be applied with a Heat Press Machine.

  3. Printer

The Sublimation transfer process only works with selected inkjet printers that are using a piezo-print-head technology. Specifically, Epson Inkjet Printer T60, Epson Inkjet Printer 1390 & also RICOH SG3110DN Printer are the best printers as it have been used over these years. These types of printers are not sold directly from Epson or Ricoh with these sublimation inks.

  4. Sublimation Blanks

PrintItems such as ceramic, metals, etc. requires a special coating to accept & to be printed with the sublimation inks. You must purchase the mugs, tiles, metals, etc. with the coating already on them, it is not something you can coat yourself. But when you apply to 100% polyester (ie: our mouse pads and puzzles) it doesn’t need any coating because it can be applied directly to the 100% polyester fabric. We carry a full line of these Sublimation Blanks.

  5. Heat Transfer Machine

To ensure safe & consistent production of Sublimation items, we recommending using professional & reliable equipments. All swing-head presses which covers 90% of the applications are supplied with a lifetime guarantee on the heat platen itself. The conversion is initiated by heat and controlled with the right pressure and time. Other available Heat Press Machines are for mug production & the decoration of caps & hats & also have a year warranty.

Advantages of dye-sublimation over other methods of textile printing:

    • Images are permanent and do not peel or fade.
    • Dye does not build up on the fabric.
    • Colors can be extraordinarily brilliant due to the bonding of the dye to the transparent fibers of the synthetic fabric.
    • Truly continuous tones can be achieved that are equivalent to photographs, without the use special techniques such as half-screen printing.
    • The image can be printed all over the entire item, with no difficulty in printing all the way to the edges.

    • The printer speed is low.
    • Any creases in the apparel during printing leave blank spots behind.
